Jewish?
Can I believe in Yeshua and still be Jewish?
According to Jewish law, even an “apostate” Jew is still Jewish. There are Jews who are orthodox, conservative, or reformed. There are reconstructionists and humanist Jews. There are Jews who are atheists, agnostics and even Buddhists.
When we believe in Yeshua (His Hebrew name, which means salvation) we don’t stop being Jewish. Most messianic Jews would say that when they came to believe that Yeshua is the Messiah, they felt like a “complete Jew”. Yeshua, himself was a Jew, and all his first followers were Jews. They never stopped being Jews. The fact that they followed Yeshua, was indeed controversial, as it is today, but there was never a thought that they were no longer Jewish, nor did Yeshua start a new religion.
***A note to my fellow Jewish folks. While our ministry is to Jews & gentiles, we do not teach that our members should try to thump fellow Jews over the head and change them to what we are, as is often done within Christianity. Instead our position is this- to the Jew first, just as scripture says. However, I fully believe that I am to be an example and a teacher. A seed planter. The rest is the job of the Ruach ha Kadesh. I fully believe that when Elijah and the other witness returns, he (they) will be the one(s) to convert the Jews who have not yet accepted Yeshua as Messiah. Our congregation exists to be a light and to plant seeds- not to force conversion upon anyone.***

In May 2008, a 98 year-old Polish lady named Irena Sendler died.
During WWII, she got permission to work in the Warsaw Ghetto, as a Plumbing/Sewer specialist but she had an ulterior motive. She KNEW of the Nazi's plans for the Jews. Irena smuggled infants out in the bottom of the tool box she carried and, in the back of her truck, she had a burlap sack for the larger children. She had a dog in the back of the truck that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto. The soldiers wanted nothing to do with the dog and the barking covered the noise of the children. She managed to smuggle out and save 2,500 children before she was caught; the Nazis broke both her legs and her arms and beat her severely.
Irena kept a record of the names of all the children that she smuggled out which she kept in a glass jar buried under a tree in her back yard. After the War, she tried to locate any parents that had survived and reunited the families. Most, of course, had been gassed, but she helped those children to be placed into foster family homes or adopted.
In 2007, Irena was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, but was not selected. Al Gore won - for a slide show on Global Warming!
