This Weeks' Pearls

Sh'ma Ministries follows a one year Torah cycle.  Each week you will find the Torah portion for the week.  Due to health issues, you may find that this may not be updated.  However, it is generally done each week.

Scripture portions for the week
Toldot (Generations)

Torah: Genesis 25:19-28:9
HafTorah: Malachi 1:1-2:7
B'rit Chadasha: Romans 9:1-13

The toldot from Yitzchak through his twin sons Jacob (Ya'akov and Esau (Esav) grown into seperate nations.  Before they were born the L-rd says the older will serve the younger.

Yitzchak was commanded by the L-rd to stay in the land despite famine in the land.  The L-rd prospers him, enabling him to reap a hundred fold for his efforts.  Avimelech follows and seeing Yitzchaks wealth, covenants to live in peace.
Yitzchak wants to bless Esav, but Rivkah conspires with Ya'akov to snatch the blessing.  Aggrieved, Esav purposes to repeat the sin of Kayin and kill his brother.
Ya'akov flees to Charan, to escape his brothers wrath and marries a Shemite from Nachor's family.  Esav eventually mourns his intermarriages and marries a daughter of Yishma'el.  Too little, too late- the inheritance passes to Ya'akov.

Have you ever considered the cost of marrying an unbeliever?  Sarah, Rivkah, and later, Leah, Rachel and their maidservants journeyed over 300 miles to enter the Promised Land.

A heritage spans generations and requires a faith journey.  The same trials that your parents faces are presented to you.  It is your destiny to face those trials and stand on the shoulders of those who have gone before you.

We stand on our parents' shoulders, reaching high for G-d.

This scripture portion is for the week ending on November 20th/21st, 2009 or in the Hebrew calendar Kislev 3rd/4th 6010 (5770).

The typical Jewish calendars use the year 5770, however, we use 6010 as the Jewish people have removed 240 years to make Simon Barchochba the Messiah.  We have added the 240 years back into the date for reporting accurately.  I will however, keep the 5770 beside the correct date so that our Jewish visitors may not be confused without explanation.

To have the desire to learn truth in scripture, the Torah, and the true names of YHWH, and his son Yeshua, are evidence of not only being called, but evidence of being chosen.  I praise Adonai that you are studying and pray that you choose to be chosen!
